General Boat Use

DO YOU WANT TO USE A TRC BOAT?

All Club Boats are ‘allocated’ to users on the sole authority of the Captain. He/she has delegated this task to a subset of persons shown on  “Boat_allocations_2005v3.0.xls“ or its replacement document on the Crew room wall.

If you wish to use ANY club boat, this is how to set about so doing.

1 Decide first on which named boat you wish to use. [Don’t ask for “a pair”!] If you don't have enough information about the boats on the spreadsheet ask your coach or Neil Grennan-Heavan or some other informed person.

2. The spreadsheet list, “Boat_allocations_2005v3.0.xls” available and published by a deputy captain from time to time.

The racking, when it was done by me [Chris George] was on this Racking file which others can now update and, IF this is done, it will enable you to know where the boat is.

In this file inter alia, there is “Inventory”, [the list], “Racking” [where they are – use the hyperlink] and which person has been allocated which boats or time slots. All boats are used solely on the authority of that person AND NOT necessarily THE COACH WHO, NO DOUBT, WILL CLAIM AUTHORITY - WRONGLY.  Unless they have been removed by unauthorised persons, there is one is stuck to the 'register' table, one on Bay 2 doors, one on the back of the entrance door and others pinned to various notice boards e.g. the Captain’s Notice Board and in both male and female changing rooms.

3. The boat carer [HE OR SHE ] SHOULD DETERMINE THAT HE IS A QUALIFED STEERS-PERSON.  Do not go out at your coach's sole instruction if you have not passed a test unless you are being assessed AND are with a coach on a one-to-one basis for assessment and totally under that coach's control for  which he or she has agreed such responsibility. If you are a steers-person on your own you must have passed a test. There is no point in asking the boat carer for a boat in any other circumstances.

To obtain use of a boat or shared use of a boat, coaches are advised to ask well in advance of need.

All non-squad, individuals or crews (for example, recreational rowers/scullers needing a pair, four or scull) are advised to plan well in advance to determine from the appropriate carer on the list. There is no point in applying if you have not confirmed by email with me [Chris George] that you have read the whole of the contents of this SAFETY site and protocols.

AS in the past, only in THE CARER’S absence may other Deputy Captains, in 'emergencies', give consent. (Examples of such 'emergencies' would be only AFTER you have tried and failed to communicate with THE CARER on the email, Tel. or Facs. numbers given and / or if the outing is a “spontaneous” one ). If this happens, before the outing, please put the name of the Dep. Captain giving consent to any such 'emergency' use on the register of outings and also please record the information on my telephone voice mail 020 8874 2013.

4. My email is chrisgeorge(at)rowing.atics.co.uk. Telephone is 020 8874 2013.
