Register Log Instructions

All crews and scullers without exception must fill in this register of outings before and after rowing.

This includes scullers using their own boats.

Maritime Law [the P.L.A. enforces it] requires that all boats have a 'readily visible' name on the boat.  If your sculler or BOAT is not named, please name it BEFORE going afloat - even if only with black tape or by similar, temporary means- and, as required by Club Rules, please put your initials /name upside down on both sides of the boat to be readable anywhere whilst it is racked or you will place your use of a rack at risk.

Any person observed failing register will be warned once orally, this warning confirmed in writing, and thereafter places at risk his or her use of the clubhouse rowing facility.

The primary purpose of this register record is safety. It is proof of compliance with our duty of care to ourselves and our insurers. Other advantages are;  to know if you are the last to use the boat house and thus the need to lock up,  to monitor damage to club boats, and accountability for such damage, which has been at a wholly unacceptable level in recent years.

Before your outing........ If not done, DATE the  page!!! CHECK IT!!!!

1.         First, the person responsible [Cox or Steersm/w - not the coach or stroke] PRINT, in capital letters, your surname and one initial.

Then, for crews, print the names of ALL crew members in the minimum space  e.g. for an eight across one or two lines. Fours and pairs should be able to fit all into one line.

2.         Print the name of the boat. Record any defects* e.g. .missing fin, hole in hull, etc.  You will need to return from the rack back to this register if you find any such defects.

3.         Record the time out [24 hour notation required]

4.            Estimate and record your anticipated time back. Do not forget this. It is important

5.         Write in your destination If you are going both above and below the boat house in one outing - say so.

After your outing record......

6.         Your actual time back

7.         Sign in if you have done no damage.  If you have done damage, write "DAMAGED" in the column and provide particulars on the blank page on the opposite side as well as a damage report in the big book provided in the crew room.

Fill out an damage report form at once

8.         Your signature means you are in and there is no damage!
