The 1970's
National Championships, 1977
Penny Haslam (stroke) and Jean Rankine (bow), Thames's most prolific medal winners at the National Championships, after receiving silver medals in the double sculls, 1977. Thames took the women's Victor Ludorum in the Champs that year.
After admitting women in 1973 (and absorbing the United Universities Women's BC, which had been rowing out of the boathouse) Thames was already well on its way to becoming the dominant force in British women's rowing. Jean Rankine, who had been Captain of UUWBC became the first woman Deputy Captain of Thames.
